Greetings and salutations, dear readers, I hope you’re all well! I’ll just get right into it and say that while killing time before a dentist appointment earlier this week, I took a quick trip into Sephora and bought a few things. Mostly skin care products, but I got a few samples as well that I’m adoring.
What I came in there for were Dr. Jart+ All That Contours Stretch Masks. I use these weekly on my face, and I really like them because unlike some other sheet masks, this one isn’t messy. I got a sample of some other brand the other day and when I opened it up, all this liquid came out and it made what should have been a relaxing experience just…really unappealing and kind of slimy. Not a problem with this. I think I may be jumping on the anti-aging wagon a bit early—I’m only 27—but I figure it can’t possibly hurt to get a bit of a head start. I tend to put this on after yoga on Sundays when I’m already nice and calm so I can have a relaxing start to my day before the dreaded Monday hits once again.
Next on the list is the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer and I love this product. It’s the only primer that has actually kept my foundation on my nose all day—normally I have to reapply by the afternoon. With this stuff though, I can really feel confident that my make up is staying right where I left it. The only drawback is that I tend to wear sunscreen under it, and if you don’t wait for your skin to really absorb the sun screen, the primer will just flake off. Which…whatever. I can be patient. Most of the time. As long as I haven’t been hitting snooze over and over again in the mornings.
Now on to the samples. The first one is the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, and while I probably won’t be picking up a full sized bottle any time soon (holy $60 Batman), I will say this—it smells amazing. It’s like an orange popsicle, which is a nice pick me up at the start of the day.
The second and probably most important sample was the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation. I specifically asked for a sample of this, partially because I’d heard nothing but amazing things about it on YouTube (I watch a lot of make up reviews. It’s a problem), but also because of Nars no longer being cruelty free. You can find out more about this issue in an article I wrote for PopWrapped, but everything about it really rubbed me the wrong way. I know it seems sort of arbitrary—I’m not a vegan or vegetarian or anything like that—but something about starting animal testing when the goal of the industry over all should be to get away from that really affected me. So I’m moving on once my current foundation runs out, and I think Tarte may be the replacement. I love the coverage and I honestly find I don’t need to use as much of it compared to the amount of Nars foundation I was putting on my face every day. Plus I love the texture…it feels so light, so I don’t feel like I’m wearing a mask all day. Sorry Nars, but I’m jumping ship. Sign me up for the HMS Tarte.
