Boscia Charcoal Face Mask: The Internet Says Yes, My Face Says Hell No

You know what I love? Being late to a trend. You can probably tell based on last week’s Diet Coke post—there is nothing I love more than being absolutely behind the times.

That was mostly sarcasm, but I did finally try the Boscia Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask, having watched every beauty YouTuber on planet earth try it out. Most of them seemed satisfied with the results, and if people say something works on the Internet, it must be true!

Yeah, my face hates this stuff.

I mean, it didn’t leave any lasting damage or anything that drastic, but it also didn’t deliver the stellar results other people seem to have. I don’t have acne anymore (thanks, Accutane) but I do still have oilier skin than the average person and a few blackheads here and there. I used this mask once per week for about a month and found that aside from hurting my skin when I peeled it off and offering the interesting challenge of seeing if I could peel it all off in one go so I could have a floppy duplicate of my face, it didn’t really offer much for me.

My skin has a tendency to turn red very easily—just ask anyone who’s done my eyebrows in the past and thought that they had seriously injured me—so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that I also came away from the peeling process looking like a tomato. Even the next day, areas where I have leftover acne scars were still pretty red, so clearly it really bothered me.

Also, it just feels really messy? I realize this part is just personal preference, but I normally use sheet masks and yeah, those can definitely drip. However, I find cream or liquid masks just….spread. Like they get on my glasses then they get on my couch and then on my blanket and then on my walls and then pretty soon the world has been overtaken by charcoal.

I suppose if you have serious blackheads that need tugging out and skin that isn’t made of sadness and broken dreams, this product could be great for you. As for me, I think this is one internet trend that has already passed that I’m going to skip.

Do you have a favorite face mask? Let me know if there is one you think I should try in the comments below!
